Repeat prescriptions
During February 2025 we are actively switching to 28 day prescribing. Please click the link below to see what this means for our patients.
Guidance for patients on 28 days prescribing policy
Ordering repeat prescriptions
Online – You can download the NHS app via your app store or log in online. This will give you access to order your repeat medication. The NHS app log in details can be used to log into Airmid, which is an alternative app providing access to your medical record, and online ordering. This can be found on your app store link available here. If you have previously been given access, you can log into Systmonline to order your prescription. Ordering online is the safest and most efficient way to process repeat prescriptions.
If you can not order online you can drop off your completed repeat slip or a note with your request including your name, address, date of birth and contact details into one of the post-boxes at the surgery or send via Royal mail.
Please order your prescription 7-10 days before you run out of your medication.
Collecting your prescription
Non Dispensing patients:
You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at your GP practice
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
Dispensing Patients:
Please allow 5 working days for our dispensary to process prescriptions –this does not include weekends or Bank Holidays. You will receive a text message when your prescription is ready to collect. Please do not call or visit the surgery before this time unless your medication is urgently needed. This has a delaying effect for other patients.
Other collection points:
Helperby surgery is open 10.30am to 12.30pm Monday -Friday for prescription collections. Please ask at dispensary if you would like your prescription to go to Helperby.
Burton Leonard post office and Great Ouseburn village shop provide a service for prescription collection.
Patients who are wishing to register for either of these services should complete a consent form (obtainable from the village shop or dispensary) and hand it in at the village shop or the dispensary. Please note we cannot accept verbal or online requests for registration.
We would like to thank the staff at the village shops for their help and co-operation.
Please show consideration to our Dispensary and Reception staff when they are dealing with your queries. We are trying our best to help you and to provide the best service to patients
Medicines Management
Your GP Practice supports a medicines management review service of medications prescribed to its patients. This service involves a review of prescribed medications to ensure patients receive the most appropriate, up to date and cost-effective treatments. This service is provided by qualified and registered healthcare professionals from within the GP practice, our NHS Primary Care Network, NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB or by external partners approved by the GP practice. Patient identifiable information does not leave the practice system but is accessed to ensure only appropriate clinical recommendations or decisions are made for each patient. Each patient can opt out of (or back into) the practice using their data for anything other than specified purposes or where there is a lawful requirement to do so.
Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine or your prescription please contact the surgery and our pharmacist will be in touch.
Your local pharmacists can also answer any questions about your prescription. They can answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
Medication reviews
If you have a repeat prescription, you will be required to have a regular review. Please see the prescription slip as this will show when your review is next due. Either submit an Accurx request or call to make an appointment at least 2 weeks before the due date.

What to do with old medicines
Take it to the pharmacy you got it from. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
